BOULDER – Lauryn Keating has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Colorado women’s golf team in 2015-16, head coach Anne Kelly announced Friday.
“We are thrilled to add Lauryn Keating to the CU Women’s golf team next year,” said Kelly. “Lauryn is an up and comer and what I like to call a ‘fly under the radar player.’ She is a highly talented golfer who has had much success at the high school and state level. She hasn’t had a lot of national exposure, but the few times she has had the chance to compete at a high level, she has performed well.
“Lauryn has a solid all-around game, she hits the golf ball a long way and also has a strong short game. She is also a terrific student, hard worker and seems very excited to become a Buffalo!”
Keating is a 5-foot-7, Elma, Wash. native and is the younger sister of Alexis Keating, who is a junior on the CU women’s golf team. When Lauryn joins Alexis on the squad next year, the Keatings will be the third sister-duo to play together in program history.
“I am beyond excited that Lauryn will be attending CU next fall,” said Alexis. “My sister and I are extremely close. We push each other to be better and keep each other accountable. I am very much looking forward to being here during her freshman year and helping her with the transition from high school to college.”
Keating will finish her impressive prep career this spring at Elma High School. Throughout three years of high school competition, under coach Michelle Keating, her mother, Keating has earned one State Championship title, has two third place finishes in the State tournament and is a three-time Evergreen Division All-Academic Award recipient. She placed third during her freshman and sophomore seasons, and took home her first State title as a junior, which Keating highlights as the biggest moment of her high school career. She won the state championship after coming back from four strokes behind with only six holes to play. Twice, she has been named the Evergreen League MVP and she has earned medalist honors in 35 of 36 matches as a member of her high school team.
In 2012, as a freshman, she and Alexis, (a senior at the time) helped lead Elma to its first High School State Championship in school history. Keating was also part of the 2013 Junior Girls Golf America’s Cup in Albuquerque, N.M. and again in 2014, when the event was held in Walla Walla, Wash. She placed 78th at the 2013 USGA Junior Girls Championship in Fort Wayne, Ind. and 65th overall at the 2014 Junior World Championship in San Diego, Calif. Keating recorded her best career round in the 2011 Washington State Junior Golf Association District Tournament, where she shot a 72 on The Home Course in Dupont, Wash.
Lauryn Raquel Keating was born in Olympia, Wash. on April 18, 1997. Her parents are Mark and Michelle Keating. She has two siblings, her sister, Alexis and one brother, Spencer, who is a sophomore in high school. Her hobbies include reading, exercising and yoga.
Keating says she selected Colorado because it feels like a home away from home and the coaching staff will help her grow into a stronger player as she hopes to one day play on the LPGA Tour. She plans to major in integrative physiology and would like to become a nutritionist or personal trainer..
