BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s soccer team will face the Utah Utes at Prentup Field in its final match of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 7 at noon MT.
The Buffaloes will celebrate Senior Day with a recognition ceremony before the match. The six seniors to be honored are: defenders Brooke Rice and Bianca Jones, forwards Tori Cooper and Storie Ledger, and midfielders Carly Bolyard and Darcy Jerman.
Colorado (12-6-1, 5-4-1) has faced Utah (8-7-4, 1-7-2) 10 times prior and the Buffs lead the series 6-3-1. CU enters Friday’s contest unbeaten in its last three, while the Utes have dropped four straight.

COLORADO VS. UTAH: Colorado has faced Utah 10 times prior and the Buffs lead the series 6-3-1. CU is unbeaten at home against the Utes posting a 3-0-1 mark. The previous two meetings have went to double-overtime. Last season in Salt Lake City, Utah, Colorado fell 2-1 in the extra frame after the Utes scored the equalizer in the 87th minute and then the game-winner in the 105th minute. The last time Utah traveled to Boulder, Colo. was in 2012 and the matched ended in a 1-1 draw after neither team could net a goal in the extra 20 minutes of action.
SCOUTING THE UTES: Utah enters Friday on a four match skid, dropping contests against both Washington schools as well as each Arizona team during that stretch. The Utes hold an 8-7-4 overall record, 1-7-2 in Pac-12 play and are in 11th place in the conference standings. Senior Katie Taylor and junior Megan Trabert lead the attack for the Utes, each scoring four goals, while midfielder Avery Jenkins has the most assists on the team with seven.

LAST WEEK: Colorado swept the Arizona schools last weekend on its home turf to remain unbeaten in three straight matches. On Friday, the Buffs shut out Arizona State 2-0 behind goals from Olivia Pappalardo, her first of the season and Brie Hooks who scored her team-leading seventh in 2014. In the victory, Colorado earned its 10th shutout this season and first-ever win over the Sun Devils in program history.The Buffs closed out the weekend with another strong performance to defeat Arizona 3-1. Darcy Jerman put CU on the board early after successfully converting a penalty kick. Brittney Stark would add her third goal of the year and Madison Krauser notched her second of the year.
SCHEELE’S SHUTOUTS: Goalkeeper Kate Scheele earned her ninth clean-sheet this year in Colorado’s 2-0 win over Arizona State last Friday. She is now tied for second in program history for the most shutouts in a single season. In just her first year with the Buffs, Scheele already ranks fifth all-time in career shutouts. Jessica Keller holds the record with 25 from 2003-05.
HOOKS’ SUPERB SEASON: Brie Hooks’ is tied for first all-time among sophomores in points and fourth all-time among sophomores in assists. She has 20 points and six assists through 19 matches in 2014. She needs to register only one more point to set a new record. She leads the team in all major categories including points, goals, assists and shots on goal.
JERMAN’S CAREER YEAR: Senior Darcy Jerman has set a new single-season career-high in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12). She leads the team with three game-winners and is a perfect 2-2 on penalty kicks.
JONES PICKS UP PAC-12 HONORS: Co-captain Bianca Jones grabbed her first career Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award last week after a strong performance against the Sun Devils and Wildcats. The Aurora, Colo. native played in all 180 minutes and led the back line that only allowed a combined 21 shots in both contests. She helped CU collect its 10th shutout of the year, marking the first time the Buffs have reached such a feat since 2007.
SANCHEZ EARNS NO. 300: CU head coach Danny Sanchez earned his 300th career victory last weekend against Arizona State. Sanchez’s coaching career spans 20 seasons where he holds an impressive 301-81-30 record. He is in his third season at Colorado and has led the team to a 34-21-7 record, including an appearance in last year’s NCAA Sweet 16.
SHARING THE BALL: Colorado has recorded 31 assists as a squad which is the fourth most all-time. CU is tied for fourth with USC in assists, averaging 1.63 per match.
FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET: Ten different Buffaloes have tallied at least one goal this season, bringing the team’s total to 29, which ranks eighth all-time. The last time CU has scored at least 29 goals in a single season was 1999 when the squad recorded 31.
CONFERENCE PLAY: Colorado has five wins against Pac-12 opponents this season, which is the most the Buffs have recorded since joining the conference in 2011. They are guaranteed at least a .500 conference record for the first time since 2009.
TOURNEY DREAMS: The Buffs hope to be one of 64 teams to make it to the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive year. Last season the Buffaloes earned a spot in the Sweet 16 for just the second time in program history after knocking off two ranked opponents in No. 15 Denver and No. 19 BYU. Colorado holds a 6-7-1 record in NCAA Tournament matches. The selection show will air on NCAA.com at 2:30 p.m. MT on Monday, Nov. 10.
