Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

Nov 24, 2014

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s soccer team has earned a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Buffaloes recorded a 3.23 team GPA during the 2013-14 academic year. It is the third straight year the soccer program has been recognized for its academic achievement with the award and fourth overall since the award was instituted in 1996. Head coach Danny Sanchez has led his teams to seven NSCAA Team Academic Awards.

CU was one of 582 collegiate soccer teams (all divisions) and 11 Pac-12 Conference squads to earn the honor.

Colorado’s team award comes on the heels of nine players being named Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. For a fifth consecutive year (2010-14) the Buffs placed at least eight student-athletes to a conference all-academic team and at least nine players on three different occasions during that stretch.

The Buffs had one of its most successful seasons to date, as they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year and posted a 14-7-1 record. Colorado also finished a program best third place in the Pac-12 Conference.
