SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday and Arizona center Oumar Ballo was named Player of the Week as voted by the media. He was also named the National Player of the Week by NCAA.com.
Ballo averaged 21.0 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 79.4% from the floor in the Wildcats three wins at the Maui Invitational. He entered this season having recorded two double-doubles in his career and already has three this year, including a 21-point, 10 rebound effort against Cincinnati and 30 points, 13 rebounds (career highs) outing against No. 10 Creighton. He also logged 12 points, nine rebounds in the win over No. 17 San Diego State.
The last Arizona player to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week was Bennedict Mathurin on Feb. 21, 2022. An Arizona player has now been named Pac-12 Player of the Week 107 teams, 24 more than UCLA in second place with 83.
Ballo's 30-10 game vs. Creighton made him the second Wildcat to post a 30-10 game in Maui, as Azuolas Tubelis had 30 points and 11 rebounds against Cincinnati. They are the only two teammates in the country to have 30-10 games to their credit so far this season. All totaled, there have only been 12 games where a player has had 30 points and 10 rebounds this season.
The Wildcats are on the road again this week to open Pac-12 play, traveling to Utah on Thursday (6:30pm MT, Pac-12 Network) before returning home to host California on Sunday (3:00pm MT, Pac-12 Network).
