Stanford football's junior defensive end Solomon Thomas is the recipient of the 2016 offensive Morris Award trophy. The Morris Award is truly a player's award, as the starting offensive linemen vote for the defensive lineman of the year, while the league's starting defensive linemen vote for the offensive lineman of the year. Thomas led Stanford and ranked in the top five in the Pac-12 in sacks (7.0) and tackles for loss (13.0). Thomas also led the Cardinal with 36 solo tackles, and tied for the team lead with 55 total tackles. The award, which was first presented in 1980, is sponsored by Anthony's Restaurant and Athletic Awards of Seattle.
