See you at football media day: Stanford's Shayne Skov

Jul 11, 2013

Much like the Stanford team he plays for, expectations are sky high for Shayne Skov as he embarks on his fifth season on The Farm. The experienced inside linebacker returns with seven other starting members of the Cardinal's defense, a unit that ranked first in the Pac-12 in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense and sacks. Some bloggers believe Skov could be part of a defense capable of propelling Stanford into national championship contention this season.

Skov has the benefit of spending an extra season with the Cardinal after he suffered a season-ending injury in just the third game of 2011. After missing the 2012 season opener, Skov emerged as Stanford's defensive leader. He collected 43 solo tackles as part of team-high 81 total tackles. His best performances came when the spotlight was brightest.

Skov racked up a season-high 10 tackles in a 17-14 overtime win against Oregon that propelled the Cardinal to the Pac-12 Championship. On New Year's Day, the inside linebacker made eight tackles, the second-most on the team, as Stanford defeated Wisconsin 20-14 to clinch their first Rose Bowl victory since 1972.
