Women’s Soccer Gets the Draw vs. UW, 2-2

Oct 27, 2013

TUCSON, Ariz. Arizona women’s soccer tied Washington, 2-2, in a double overtime duel Sunday afternoon at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.

Arizona (7-6-4) junior Alexandra Doller scored her sixth goal of the season in the 64th minute to put the Wildcats on the board. With 16 seconds remaining in the match, sophomore Kaitlyn Lopez tied up the game off a free throw from teammate Jaden DeGracie. The Wildcats outshot the Huskies, 22-7, with senior Jazmin Ponce leading the team with seven.

Moving to 7-6-4 on the season, Washington’s Kate Bennet recorded the first goal in the 20th minute to put the Huskies up 1-0. UW’s Havana McElvaine recorded her second goal of the season to give Washington a 2-0 lead. Lindsay Elston led the Huskies in shots with two, including one on goal.

“The main thing we talked to the players about is having an edge,” head coach Tony Amato said. “On Friday, Washington State had energy and bite in the way they played and we didn’t match that. We have to always bring that or we’re not going to be successful. I thought today we did a better job of that.”

In the net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded three saves for the Wildcats while Washington goalkeeper Megan Kufield recorded five saves.

Up next, the Wildcats match up against Utah on Fri., Nov. 1, at 3 p.m., and Colorado on Sun., Nov. 3, at noon. Both matches will be played at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The match vs. Utah will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
