Oct 31, 2013

Sun Devil Athletics celebrated NCAA National Champions Jordan Clark, Chelsea Cassulo, and Anna Jelmini at the VIVA! Reception on Thursday, October 31st at 3 pm in the Fulton Center's Sun Devil Canyon. The outstanding track and field athletes won titles in the Men's Indoor Track and Field shot put, Women's Outdoor Track and Field hammer, and Women's Outdoor Track and Field discus, respectively.

"When a university athlete wins an NCAA Championship, it's an incredible thing," said Arizona State University President Michael Crow. He went on to joke about his own experience with track and field, and to compliment both throwing coach David Dumble and head coach Greg Kraft for developing such gifted student-athletes.

Added Athletic Director Steve Patterson, "This is an incredible example of what can happen when great athletes and great coaching combine."

ASU Track and Field has accumulated 77 All American Honors and 24 individual championships, as well as 59 Pac-10/Pac-12 Academic All-Americans.

"(The athletes) have pushed themselves beyond what most would expect to win these awards," said Dumble.
