EUGENE, Ore. – Lila Toner led Oregon State with 11 kills as the Oregon State volleyball team closed out their 2013 season with a four-loss to Oregon Friday night at Matt Knight Arena.

The match was the second of the year in the Civil War, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Wells Fargo Bank and Your Local Ford Stores. Set scores were 13-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 15-25.

“I told the team after the match how proud I was of them for battling so hard despite our losing streak,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We have to serve the ball better and serve-receive the ball better. That was big tonight where they had six aces and we had one. We just did not sustain runs of points enough when we were right there.

Toner’s 11 paced the Beavers, who finished with 43 overall and Oregon State hit .206 on the night. OSU won the third set on the strength of a .519 hitting percentage, posting 16 kills to just two errors. Oregon, meanwhile, hit .324 during the set but committed six errors.

Arica Nassar had nine kills while tallying four blocks, including two solo. She was backed by Kelsey Zimmerman, who had three blocks and seven kills. Amanda Brown tallied seven kills as well.

Oregon (19-11 overall, 12-8 Pac-12 Conference) was led offensively by Liz Brenner, who had 22 kills, and Ariana Williams, who tallied 15. The Ducks finished with a .314 hitting percentage to .206 for Oregon State.

Oregon State (9-22, 0-20) won the battle at the net, claiming seven blocks to the Ducks’ six. Oregon, however, out-dug the Beavers, 62-to-46, and had six service aces to one for Oregon State.

The match marked the end of the career for the Beavers’ lone senior, Becky Defoe. The Bend native tallied nine digs to finish with 2,029 for her career. That places her in ninth all-time in Pac-12 history.
