Cameron Oliver Signs NLI With Men’s Hoops
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State men’s basketball head coach Craig Robinson announced Wednesday that power forward Cameron Oliver has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the program for the 2014-15 season.
“We are really excited about Cameron Oliver, especially getting him at this time of the recruiting process,” Oregon State head coach Craig Robinson said. “He is going to help us in a lot of ways. He has length, he has shooting ability and he has athleticism; all of the things that can help a freshman play right away in this league.”
Oliver, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward from Sacramento, Calif., attends Grant High School and is a three-star recruit according to ESPN.com and Rivals.com. Oliver tore his ACL during his junior year and missed part of his senior season but came back to average 21.5 points and 10 rebounds in 11 games.
ESPN.com says “Oliver has a terrific frame with broad shoulders, long arms, and good hands. He is an explosive athlete who is ultra-bouncy both in transition and in the paint area. He can fill the lane and finish with a thunderous dunk or hover around the rim for the tip-in or follow jam. He can step-out and nail the elbow jump shot as well. Defensively, he shows great timing on the defensive end and his shot blocking ability is impressive.
“Oliver is a diamond in the rough. His game is rough around the edges as is his decision making, but he has the physical tools to be a high major four-man at the highest level.”
Oregon State’s 2014 class also includes Chai Baker, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard from Malone, Fla., Isaiah Manderson, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center from Oldsmare, Fla., and Gary Payton II, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard from Las Vegas, Nev., who currently attends Salt Lake Community College.
