Video: Students, linemen try out to become Washington's next punt returner

Apr 19, 2014

As evidenced by all the marketing material surrounding Washington football, it's a new era in Montlake. Saturday marked the first spring game of Chris Petersen's tenure in Seattle and very few knew what to expect from the new head coach. Would he use the opportunity to put his players through their paces? Or would he delight the soggy Husky Stadium crowd with a more fan-friendly approach?

In actuality, the "spring preview" was a blend of both. About three-quarters of the way through the afternoon, the Huskies took a break from their scrimmage to try out a few new punt returners. Among the applicants were UW students and the team's linemen. The result is amusing to say the least.

While it doesn't seem like Petersen found anyone with game-changing skills on Saturday, all the contestants walked away with a new appreciation for special teams players...and a knack for providing spring game entertainment.
