Pac-12 track and field athletes of the week announced

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pac-12 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the the week of April 28-May 4:

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: AARON BROWN, USC (Sr., Toronto, Canada). Senior Aaron Brown won three events at the annual UCLA-USC dual meet, winning the 100-meter and 200-meter races, while also helping the 4x100-meter relay squad win its event. Brown has won the 100-meter dash at the Dual Meet all four seasons as a Trojan, this season capturing the title with a time of 10.18 into a -0.7 headwind. He also won the 200 meter with a time of 20.46 and ran the second leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay which posted a strong time of 39.76.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: AISLING CUFFE, STANFORD (Jr., Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, N.Y.). Junior Aisling Cuffe set a school and Pac-12 record of 15:11.13 in the 5,000 meter while finishing sixth at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, one of the nation’s biggest showcase events for distance running. Cuffe’s time was third-fastest ever among collegians and the second-fastest among American collegians. The time is also the best among in the NCAA so far this season.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: NICK ROSS, ARIZONA (RS-Sr., Murrieta, Calif.). On senior night, Nick Ross won the men's high jump competition with a personal-best mark of 2.30m/7-6.5, topping James Frazier's school record of 2.29m/7-6 set in 1980 at the UCLA-USC dual meet in Westwood, Calif. Ross' mark is also the best in the country this year and ranks No. 5 in the world. He also won the men's triple jump competition with a season-best mark of 15.59m/51-1.75. The jump is tied for No. 26 in the country, No. 12 in the west region and No. 3 in the Pac-12 this season. Ross earned a second-place finish in the long jump with another season-best mark of 7.44m/24-5.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: MARY BARNETT, WASHINGTON STATE (Sr., Hermiston, Ore.). Senior Mary Barnett was a double winner in the WSU-Washington dual, providing 10 points in the Cougars’ 82-81 victory over the then-No. 21 Huskies. Barnett won the shot put with a season-best throw of 13.89m/45-7, won the discus with a personal best of 42.66m/139-11 and threw the hammer a distance of 43.57m/142-11, also a lifetime best. Barnett is the second WSU track athlete to earn weekly honors with André McBride garnering men’s track weekly nods on April 15.
