Men’s Discus and Women’s Pole Vault Lead Bruins on Final Day

PULLMAN, Wash. – The UCLA track and field team was led by the men’s discus and the women’s pole vault on Sunday at the Pac-12 Championships at the Mooberry Track on the campus of Washington State.

The women finished the championship in sixth place with 68 points while the men placed seventh with 68.25 points.

In the men’s discus, senior Julian Wruck defended his conference title with a throw of 210-9. Matt Kosecki finished third for the Bruins with a throw of 188-8 while Nicholas Scarvelis placed sixth at 174-2.

In the women’s pole vault, UCLA had three scorers, led by a second place finish from Natasha Kolbo. The senior hit a huge personal best at 13-10.50 to earn runner-up honors. Elena Clarke placed sixth at 13-0.75 while Kayla Mallett also hit a personal best at 13-0.75 to finish eighth.

The women also got some key points in the 100m hurdles where Brea Buchanan and Trinity Wilson placed third and fourth, respectively. Buchanan crossed the line at a season best 13.35 while Wilson also hit a season best at 13.39.

Also scoring points for the women were Kylie Price in the 100m with a sixth place finish at 11.79. The 4x400m relay finished fourth with a season best of 3:40.86 and the 4x100m team placed fifth at 45.15. Ally Courtnall was eighth in the 400m with a time of 54.68.

On the men’s side, Nick Hartle was runner-up in the 800m with a time of 1:50.40. Jarrett Gonzales placed seventh in the 400m hurdles at 53.75 and the 4x100m relay team finished fifth at 40.96 while the 4x400m relay was fourth at 3:12.41.

The Bruins will train through the week to prepare for the NCAA West Regionals that will be held Thursday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31 in Fayetteville, Ark.
