Highlights: Oregon stops Clemson in NCAA regional opener

May 30, 2014

It's hard to imagine Oregon's NCAA baseball tournament opener going any better.

The Ducks pounded out 20 hits off of six Clemson pitchers Friday en route to a 18-1 victory in the Nashville regional opener.

Ten different Ducks drove in at least one run in the rout, with catcher Shaun Chase leading them all with 4. His big day included a 3-run home run in the 4th inning that put Oregon up 8-1. Tyler Baumgartner added a homer of his own, part of an Oregon attack that included nine extra-base hits.

Ducks pitcher Tommy Thorpe allowed just five hits across seven innings of work while striking out four.

Oregon now awaits the winner of Vanderbilt/Xavier, who they'll play Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
