Golden Bears Announce 2014 Cross Country Schedule
BERKELEY – The California men’s and women’s cross country teams have announced their 2014 schedule, featuring six meets in the Bay Area this fall.
The Golden Bears will compete in a total of nine meets leading up to the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships once again in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Cal opens the 2014 campaign in the University of San Francisco Invitational in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, Aug. 30, in the first of six meets held in the Bay Area this season.
A select group of Bears will travel to St. Paul, Minn. to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27, in the first of two meets held outside the Golden State during the regular season. The 29th annual event, held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course, is recognized as one of the largest meets in the country.
The rest of the squad will compete in the Stanford Invitational the same day on the Stanford Golf Course.
The Bears open the month of October with the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento on Saturday, Oct. 4.
In a preview of the NCAA Championships, a select group of Golden Bears will head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-NCAA Invitational being held on the LaVern Gipson Course, the site of the NCAA Championships the following month.
The Bronco Invitational will be held the same weekend at Baylands Regional Park in Santa Clara.
The 2014 Pac-12 Cross Country Championships are being held locally this year, with the Metropolitan Golf Course in Oakland serving as the host on Friday, Oct. 31.
Following the conference meet, a group of Golden Bears will compete in the Doc Adams Invitational at the Putah Creek Reserve in Davis, Calif. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The NCAA West Regionals will also take place in the Bay Area, with the Stanford Golf Course serving as the host site on Friday, Nov. 14.
Once again, the LaVern Gipson Course in Terre Haute, Ind. will be the host site of the 2014 NCAA Championships. Last year, Kelsey Santisteban finished 10th at the NCAA Championships to seal her All-American status become the highest finishing Golden Bear in the program’s history.
