T&F’s Houlihan, McBride Set For USATF Outdoor Championships

TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State track and field’s NCAA Champions Shelby Houlihan and Bryan McBride are set to compete at the 2014 USATF Outdoor Championships, Thursday through Sunday, at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.

Houlihan, a junior out of Sioux City, Iowa, is set to compete in the 800m run. The first round is set for 4:15 p.m. PT on Thursday. The semifinals are set for 8:09 p.m. PT on Friday, and the finals on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. PT.

McBride, a redshirt junior from Peoria, Ariz., will compete on Saturday in the high jump, which is set for 11:45 a.m. PT.

Last time out, at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., Houlihan won ASU’s first-ever title in the 1500m at 4:18.10, while McBride won the high jump with a lifetime best clearance of 2.28m (7-5.75). McBride’s title was ASU’s first NCAA title in the event since 1977.

Four Sun Devil alumni will also be in action at the USATF meet, with Chris Benard competing in the triple jump on Friday at 6:10 p.m. PT, Jordan Clarke in the shot put, which begins on Wednesday with the qualifying rounds at 11:30 a.m. PT, Amy Hastings in the 10,000m on Thursday at 8:20 p.m. PT, and Chelsea Cassulo in the hammer on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT.

Houlihan (2014), McBride (2014), Clarke (2011, 2012), and Cassulo (2013) have combined for five NCAA outdoor titles since 2011.
