Eric Moreland Signs With Sacramento Kings
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Former Oregon State men’s basketball standout Eric Moreland signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings, the team’s General Manager Pete D’Alessandro announced Wednesday. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“It has been a goal of mine since I started playing basketball to play in the NBA,” Moreland said. “I’m so grateful to the Sacramento Kings organization and all of their outstanding fans for giving me this opportunity. I will not let up and continue to work hard to help this team win. I won’t get complacent and this is only the beginning.
“I know people questioned my decision to forgo my senior year at Oregon State, but I did my time in college, earned my degree and felt I was ready to take the next step in my basketball career. I have no regrets. Oregon State treated me great while I was there, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life with the Sacramento Kings.”
Moreland averaged 3.5 points (.444 FG%, .500 FT%), 8.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists, a team-high 2.7 blocks and 19.2 minutes per game in six games off the bench for the Kings Samsung NBA Summer League 2014 Championship squad. Moreland led all players in Las Vegas with 16 blocks and his blocks per game average was the highest among all players seeing action in at least four games.
A native of Houston, Texas, Moreland is Oregon State’s all-time leader in blocked shots (184) and blocked shots average (2.07), and fifth all-time in rebounds (762) and sixth in rebounding average (8.6). He was selected Pac-12 All-Defensive Honorable Mention two times and was named Pac-12 Player of the Week during his sophomore season. He holds the Oregon State single-season records for blocked shots (73) and blocked shots average (2.52) and tied the school’s single-game blocked shots record with six in two different games.
