Josh Hawkinson Returns from China Basketball Tour

PULLMAN, Wash. – Rising-sophomore Josh Hawkinson recently competed as a member of the USA Eagles basketball team in its 2014 Asia Tour, which featured a total of seven games in China and Mongolia.

A native of Shoreline, Wash., Hawkinson averaged 9.2 points and 9.7 rebounds a game while shooting 57 percent from the field. The USA Eagles went 5-2 on the tour (2-2 in China, 3-0 in Mongolia), playing two different teams in China twice each and three different teams in Mongolia.

On top of playing basketball, Hawkinson and the USA Eagles participated in community service, including working with a local deaf school where they put on a basketball clinic. They also toured China and Mongolian, including trips to the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square and the birthplace of Genghis Khan.

In the second game of the tour, a 94-85 victory over the Anhui Dragons, Hawkinson led the team in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and 14 rebounds. He followed it up with 13 rebounds in the rematch against the Dragons in the team’s next game.

The USA Eagles have been playing in Asia since 2008 and traditionally play a combination schedule of National Team and Chinese Basketball Association. Hawkinson competed with nine other collegiate men’s basketball players from throughout the United States. WSU rising-senior DaVonté Lacy played with the USA Eagles on a tour of China in the summer of 2012.
