The unavoidable questions for the Arizona Wildcats heading into their opener against UNLV was who would fill in for graduated quarterback B.J. Denker and now-NFL running back Ka'Deem Carey. After two hot-and-cold offensive possessions to start the game Friday, the Wildcats got their answer in a big way.
Pinned at the 4-yard line without a score, the Wildcats used a 41-yard outside run by starting running back Terris Jones-Grigsby to set up a 39-yard touchdown pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Anu Solomon to receiver Nate Phillips.
Yes, the depth chart said Solomon and Jones-Grigsby were the starters. Yet, Arizona fans were probably a little more relieved when they saw two big unknowns look more than capable.
