Video: Nelson Agholor makes circus catch

Aug 30, 2014

The first thing you'll notice about the above highlight is USC quarterback Cody Kessler spinning nicely out of a tackle and making a perfect pass on the run. The second thing you'll notice is that receiver Nelson Agholor makes the catch more difficult than it needed to be.

The catch looks like it should have been made around the Trojans' 47-yard line, but it bounces off Agholor and into the air. He ends up tripping himself up but keeping his concentration on the ball, which he catches around Fresno State's 42-yard line. That's about 11 yards of ground covered in a split-second, not counting the extra three yards Agholor rolls because of his momentum.

The Trojans knew Agholor would be a dangerous receiver this year, but replacing Marqise Lee with freshman JuJu Smith will open the coverage for Agholor to make plays like above -- even if it didn't need to be so dramatic.
