Ishmael Adams Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sep 30, 2014

Junior defensive back Ishmael Adams from the UCLA football team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 22-28.

Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week Adams scored two touchdowns of at least 95 yards in length on his way to compiling 296 all-purpose yards in the 62-27 win at #15 Arizona State last week. His second quarter interception changed the complexion of the game. With ASU driving for a go-ahead score late in the second quarter, Adams picked off a Mike Bercovici pass at the five-yard line and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown to put UCLA ahead 27-17 with two seconds remaining in the half. It marked his second interception return for a score this season and was the eighth interception in UCLA history of at least 95 yards (dating to 1957) and the longest since 1994. After ASU scored a field goal on its opening possession of the second half, Adams once again changed the momentum in the game with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. It was UCLA’s first kickoff return for a score since 2007 and was the fourth (dating back to 1957) of at least 100 yards and the longest since 2007. Adams also had kick returns of 25 yards, 44 yards, and 20 yards to go along with his 100-yarder. His total of 201 kick return yards is just short of the single-game school record total of 206 held by Terrence Austin (2008 game v. Fresno State).
