STANFORD’s MANUEL, USC’S ISHIMATSU

NAMED PAC-12 WOMEN’S SWIMMER AND DIVER OF THE MONTH

SAN FRANCISCO – STANFORD freshman Simone Manuel was named Pac-12 Women’s Swimmer of the Month and USC’s Haley Ishimatsu the Pac-12 Diver of the Month for January, the Conference office announced today.

Manuel (Sugar Land, Texas) set Avery Aquatic Center (Stanford University) records in the 50- and 200-meter freestyle events against USC. Manuel finished first in 9-of-11 events in January, winning the 200-, 100- and 50- meter freestyles against Arizona, the 400 medley relay and 200 IM against Arizona State, the 50-free and 400-free relay against UCLA, and the 200- (1:44.34) and 50-meter (22.24) freestyle races against USC. Her efforts helped propel Stanford up to No. 2 in the dual meet rankings.

Ishimatsu (Seal Beach, Calif.), showcased her diving skills in January. At the Bruin Dive Invitational, the senior placed first on the women’s 3-meter and first on the platform. The senior followed up by placing first in her next four events, sweeping first place honors in the 1-meter and 3-meter in USC’s meet against Cal, and taking first in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter in the meet against Stanford.

This is the second-career Swimmer of the Month honor for Manuel and the 13th overall for Stanford, which tie California for the most of any Pac-12 school since the award’s inception. Ishimatsu earns her third-career weekly honor and 14th overall diving honor for USC, also the most of any Pac-12 school.
