Two weekends remain in regular season

THIS WEEKEND: UCLA can clinch at least a share of the Pac-12 title with a sweep or a series win this weekend, depending on the outcome of Cal, ASU, and USC, who are all 3.0 games back. The Bruins’ magic number is four. ASU/WSU begin on Thursday and USC/Cal begin on Saturday with the rest of the series’ beginning on Friday.

UPCOMING DRAFT: According to Baseball America UCLA RHP James Kaprielian and ARIZ SS Kevin Newman are projected first round picks. Kaprielian is No. 17 in the top-100 draft prospects by Baseball America, followed by Newman (No. 27), ARIZ 2B Scott Kingery (No. 39) and ASU RHP Ryan Burr (No. 72)

ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT: Four Pac-12 players were named Academic All-District: ARIZ RHP Ryan Burr, 3.60 GPA, OSU RHP Andrew Moore, 3.32 GPA, Stanford SS Tommy Edman 3.83 GPA and Washington DH Josh Cushing 3.47 GPA.

GOLDEN SPIKES WATCH LIST: Four Pac-12 players are on the 30-man Golden Spikes Award for the nation’s top player, they are UCLA’s RHP David Berg, ARIZ utility man Bobby Dalbec, ARIZ 2B Scott Kingery, OSU RHP Andrew Moore, 

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: UCLA’s Ty Moore and ARIZONA STATE’s Brett Lilek were named the Pac-12 Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Moore, who earned the weekly honor for the second time this season, hit .389 with six RBIs and a .611 slugging percentage. He began the week with a double, a homer, and four RBIs against Pepperdine. In the series victory over the Sun Devils, he went 5-for-15 with two hits in the Friday win and another three in the Saturday clincher, which went 17 innings. 

ASU avoided the sweep on Sunday, as following the five-hour and 50-minute marathon, Lilek pitched a three-hitter, struck out a season-high seven and walked one in a 2-1 victory. In his longest career outing, the lefthander retired the first 14 batters before a two-out single broke up the no-hitter in the fifth. 

NATIONAL RANKINGS: UCLA remains at No. 2 in Baseball America, followed by No. 15 USC, No. 16 Arizona State, No. 22 California and No. 23 Oregon State. In Collegiate Baseball, UCLA is No. 4 followed by No. 11 Cal, No. 12 ASU, No. 17 USC and No. 18 OSU.
