Moore and Heineman earn final weekly honors

May 25, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO—OREGON STATE'S Andrew Moore's and his two-hit shutout and OREGON's Scott Heineman and his .562 week led the Northwest duo to Pac-12 Pitcher and Player of the Week honors.Moore was also named one of Collegiate Baseball's national players of the week on Monday. This is the third weekly honor of the season for Moore as well.

Moore (Eugene, Ore.) in his Friday night regular season finale, faced the 27-man minimum, struck out a season-best 13 in a two-hit shutout of a fellow top-16 team, California. The two hits he gave up were both extinguished by inning-ending double play balls as OSU took the series and enter post-season play having won eight of 10. Moore's 1.73 ERA is second-best in the Pac-12, as are his 103 strikeouts. He is 7-2 on the year over 114.2 innings

Heineman (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) hit .562 in four games last week, producing three hits in a mid-week win over OSU before going 6-for-11 in the series win against Conference champion, UCLA. The junior had two hits and two runs in the series opener with the Bruins, a 4-3 loss. After extra innings tied the series on Saturday, Heineman had four hits and two RBIs in the extra inning series clincher on Sunday. The Ducks, one of the "last ones in" during Monday's NCAA Regional announcement, have won five-straight, nine of 10 and five-straight weekend series. Heineman is batting .289 this year in 42 regular season starts.

The Pac-12 Conference featured six teams in the upcoming NCAA Baseball regional, led by top-8 national No. 1 seed, UCLA.  USC, Oregon State and Arizona State were regional-second seeds and California and Oregon were regional-three seeds. Regional play will begin May 29 in the double elimination, first round of four-team regionals. The Super Regionals, a best-of-three format, will begin on June 5. The College World Series will begin on June 13 in Omaha.
