BURBANK, Calif. – The Washington Huskies have a ton of positions to fill out during fall camp, chief among them being the starting quarterback gig. With Cyler Miles retiring due to a chronic hip injury, Jeff Lindquist, K.J. Carta Samuels, Jake Browning and Tony Rodriguez will be battling it out to be the No. 1 signal caller on Montlake.

Or you could go with running back Deontae Cooper, according to Deontae Cooper.

“Quarterback competition?! They didn’t tell you?! Week 1 I’m going underneath the center!” Cooper exclaimed when asked about Washington’s quarterback situation. “I’m throwing bombs! Write the story – Cooper is going underneath the center.”

Head coach Chris Petersen spoke glowingly of Cooper, who has fought back from three ACL injuries to become a contributor in the Washington backfield. Petersen said that the sixth-year back has the “it factor,” but apparently that “it factor” doesn’t include an arm suitable under center.

“I have [seen him throw the football], and let me tell you, we would be in big trouble if that’s what we were left with,” Petersen said. “We’d be much better handing him the ball than letting him throw it.”

You got your story, Deontae, but it doesn’t look like you’ll get your wish.
