Pac-12 announces women's soccer Players of the Week

Aug 25, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO - In the first weekly vote of the 2015 women’s soccer season, ARIZONA’s Gabi Stoian was named Offensive Player of the Week, while USC’s Dominique Randle was voted Defensive Player of the Week and UTAH’s Lindsey Luke was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week, the Conference office announced today.

Stoian (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored three goals on six shots and added an assist for the Wildcats as they got off to a great start in 2015, starting 2-0. The sophomore forward/midfielder was very efficient in UA's season-opening win versus Abilene Christian on Friday. She scored two of the squad's four goals and assisted on another. It is the fourth time in her young career that she has scored at least two goals in a game. On Sunday evening against Santa Clara, Stoian helped the team with her goal from the penalty spot, tying the game after Arizona gave up an early goal. The Wildcats went on to score the game-winning goal in the 69th minute from the foot of sophomore Cece Bilginer. It is the second time that Stoian has been named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week in her career, the first coming on Sep. 8, 2014.

Randle (Sammamish, Wash.) and the Women of Troy started the 2015 season against two top 15-ranked teams, including No. 1 Florida State, the defending NCAA Champion. Randle, a redshirt junior, anchored the defense that held No. 13 Texas Tech to six shots and zero goals in the 1-0 win. They went 172 minutes without allowing a goal over the two contests until Florida State scored in the 82nd minute and held on to defeat USC, 1-0. It is the first time she has won the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Luke (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) posted two shutouts last weekend against Marquette and No. 21 DePaul. The senior goalkeeper made seven saves in the 1-0 victory over Marquette and three in the 0-0 draw with DePaul. With both games going into overtime, Luke has already racked up over 200 minutes of scoreless play. She has earned Pac-12 Player of the Week accolades six times.

This week, Arizona heads north for an in-state battle against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Aug. 28. USC will head to UC Riverside on Friday Aug. 28. Utah's match versus Houston on Aug. 28 will be shown live on the Pac-12 Network. They will also face Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 30.
