Cody Kessler and Tre Madden waste no time in USC's opener

Sep 5, 2015

Cody Kessler entered the 2015 season as one of the Pac-12 frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy, and it took him all of four plays Saturday night to produce the first highlight of his redshirt senior year.

Facing a third-and-9 from the USC 39-yard line, Kessler stepped up in the pocket and hit JuJu Smith-Schuster over the middle of the field. The studly sophomore receiver did the rest of the work from there, taking it the remaining 46 yards for a 61-yard touchdown pass to give USC a 7-0 lead over Arkansas State after the Trojans’ first drive of the season.

Now that's how you start a Heisman campaign.

But USC wasn't done making explosive plays in its season opener. Exhibit B? Tre Madden’s 65-yard touchdown run.

That guy fast.

Madden’s touchdown rush was USC’s fourth play from scrimmage that went at least 20 yards. All in the first 21 minutes.
