Men's Gymnastics Announces 2016 Schedule

BERKELEY, Calif. – The California Golden Bears men's gymnastics program announced its 2016 schedule on Monday. The Bears will open their 2016 season on the road on Monday, Jan. 11 when they head to take on Bay Area rival Stanford at Burnham Pavilion at 7 p.m. PT live on the Pac-12 Network. Cal and Stanford will meet a total of four times during the regular season and at least once more at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday, April 2 at Stanford.

"I am very excited about our 2016 schedule,” head coach Brett McClure said. “We come right out of the gates against Stanford on Monday, Jan. 11, which will test both teams' fall preparations on the Pac-12 Networks, who have decided to highlight our competition with the Cardinal this year.”

Following the opening meet against Stanford on the peninsula, Cal will open its home schedule with the Cal Benefit Cup against Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. The Bears remain at home the following week on Sunday, Jan. 24 when they host Ohio State and Stanford.

Cal then travels away from Berkeley for the next four consecutive meets, beginning with a trip to Norman, Oklahoma, to battle the defending national champion Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Bears then head to Stanford to take on the Cardinal and Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, Feb. 6 and then return to Stanford for the International Collegiate Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Another significant date on the calendar is the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas on Saturday, Feb. 20, which will serve as the first qualification process for qualification for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Cal then ventures to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to battle Air Force on Saturday, March 5 before closing out the regular season with a pair of home meets against Army and Washington on Friday, March 11 and against Army again on Sunday, March 13. The seven California seniors will be honored, along with Cal gymnastics alumni on Friday, March 11 at Haas Pavilion.

The NCAA Championships in 2016 will be hosted by Ohio State and the Greater Columbus Sports Commission at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio from April 15-16. Tickets will be available through ncaa.com/tickets and fans are encouraged to support the Bears and men's college gymnastics in Columbus.
