Pac-12 football players of the week announced

Nov 23, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO – Quarterback Vernon Adams, Jr. of OREGON, linebacker Antonio Longino of ARIZONA STATE and running back Christian McCaffrey of STANFORD have been named offensive, defensive and special teams Pac-12 Players of the Week in football.

Adams Jr., a senior quarterback from Pasadena, Calif., tied the Ducks’ school record with six touchdown passes to six different receivers in the 48-28 win over USC. Adams Jr., had his best performance in an Oregon uniform, throwing 20-of-25 for 407 passing yards. His performance marked the most single-game touchdown passes ever against USC. Adams Jr., is tied for second in the nation for most touchdown passes in a single game this year and is ranked fifth nationally for single-game passing efficiency this year at 287.95. This is Adams’ second Conference weekly accolade this season, previously winning the award on Nov. 2.

Longino, a senior linebacker from Cleveland, Ohio, tallied nine tackles with seven coming solo in the 52-37 win over Arizona. Additionally, he registered four sacks for a loss of 13 total yards, the first Sun Devil to record four or more sacks in a single game since Derron Ware in 2006. Longino and the Sun Devil defense held the Arizona running game to 109 yards, 117 yards below their season average. To date, he has 10 sacks and 19 tackles for loss this season, leading Arizona State as well as the Pac-12. This is Longino’s second weekly nod and the first player to win Pac-12 honors in consecutive weeks this season.

McCaffrey, a sophomore running back from Castle Rock, Colo., gained a Cardinal record 389 all-purpose yards, the nation’s highest total this year and broke Glyn Milburn’s Cardinal record of 379 accomplished in the 1990 Big Game. McCaffrey scored two long touchdowns within a four-minute span in the second quarter to lead Stanford to a 35-22 win over California in the Big Game, helping Stanford complete the sweep of the California schools. McCaffrey rushed for 192 yards on 29 carries, had one reception for 49 yards and posted 148 yard on kickoff returns with a 98-yard return for a score. McCaffrey passed the single-season all-purpose yardage totals of Reggie Bush, Marcus Allen and Mike Rozier from their Heisman-winning years. McCaffrey’s performance this past weekend also named him Walter Camp National Player of the Week.
