Pac-12 Announces Wrestler of the Week
SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today that Connor Schram of STANFORD was named the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week for competition through Jan. 11-17.
Schram (Cannonsburg, Pa.), helped lead Stanford to dual wins over Utah Valley (37-5) and Duke (27-15) as it improved to 7-2 on the season. Against Utah Valley, Schram, at 125 pounds, knocked-off 18th-ranked Chasen Tolbert with a 3-1 sudden victory decision. Tied 1-1 heading into overtime, Schram scored a double-leg takedown in just seven seconds for his 12th win of the season and his first over a ranked opponent. Versus Duke, Schram was asked to wrestle up a weight for the Cardinal, defeating Brandon Leynaud, 10-3 at 133 pounds. The redshirt sophomore is now 13-3 overall and 3-1 in duals. It is Schram's first-career weekly accolade and the first all-time for the Cardinal.
Stanford hits the road next week, traveling to Tempe, Arizona for duals against West Virginia and Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 23. Both duals will be televised live on Pac-12 Bay Area.
Arizona State will host the 2016 Pac-12 Wrestling Championships on Feb. 27 in Tempe, Ariz.
Also Nominated: Matt Kraus, ASU; Geordan Martinez, BSU; Reuben Franklin, CSUB.
