Pac-12 Announces Baseball Players of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today Logan Ice of OREGON STATE was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Erik Martinez of CALIFORNIA was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the action during the week of Feb. 29 - March 6.

Ice (Puyallup, Wash.) played in all three games of the Beavers’ sweep of San Diego and William & Mary, going 6-for-8 with six runs, one double, one triple, two home runs and eight RBI. The junior was also walked three times and was hit by a pitch once. He became the first OSU player with six RBI in a game since Michael Conforto in 2013 when he drove in six against William & Mary in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Ice also hit a three-run home run, a solo home run and drove in two on a triple. His six RBI are a single-game high by a Pac-12 player, as is his two home runs and 11 total bases. Ice came on as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning in the Beavers’ second game Saturday, and went 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Ice tallied a 1.875 slugging percentage on the weekend, and finished with a .769 on-base percentage. He reached base on nine of his 11 official at bats. This is the second weekly honor on the season for the Beavers and the 33rd all-time.

Martinez (West Covina, Calif.), who is on the NCBWA (National College Baseball Writers Association) Stopper of the Year Watch List, was an integral part of Cal’s four-game sweep of the Texas Longhorns in Austin this past weekend. Martinez logged 4.2 innings of work, maintaining a 0.00 ERA, winning a game and picking up two more saves. He now has four saves on the season in as many tries and is on pace to break the school single-season record for saves (10, which has been accomplished twice). Martinez held Texas hitters to a .188 batting average, while striking out six. Martinez helped lead the Bears to the first-ever four-game sweep of Texas in the in the 79th four-gamer in Longhorns history. This is the 67th all-time honor for the Golden Bears program.

The Beavers host San Francisco for a three-game series on March 11-13 while the Golden Bears host Texas Tech for a four-game series (includes a doubleheader) on the same dates.
