Arizona State’s Rahm Named Pac-12 Golfer of the Month

SAN FRANCISCO – Jon Rahm of ARIZONA STATE has been named the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Month for April, the Pac-12 announced today.

Rahm, a senior from Barrika, Spain, punctuated a spectacular month with medalist honors at the Pac-12 Championships where he posted a score of 12-under 272 (70-66-68-68) to become the first Sun Devil to win the individual title since Paul Casey in 2000. He entered the final round six strokes off the lead, but battled strong winds to card a 3-under 68 to post the 10th victory of his career. He was one of only five players in the field to shoot under par on the final day.

The world’s No. 1 ranked amateur (wagr rankings), Rahm opened the month with a victory at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational where he carded a 15-under 198 (66-64-68). It was his record third career victory in the Thunderbird Invitational. He followed that with a tie for eighth at the Western Intercollegiate with a 1-under 209 (72-67-70).

In all, he posted a 67.9 stroke average in 10 rounds in April. In 11 tournaments spanning both the fall and spring seasons, Rahm has yet to finish outside of the top-10.

Also nominated for golfer of the month honors were KK Limhasut, So., CALIFORNIA (Tied for third at the Pac-12 Championships at -7); Jeremy Paul, Jr., COLORADO; Aaron Wise, So., OREGON (Finished 2nd at the Western Intercollegiate at -14; Tied for 9th at the Pac-12 Championship at -1); Maverick McNealy, Jr., STANFORD (Record-breaking -16 to win the Western Intercollegiate; 6th at the Pac-12 Championships at -3); Jonathan Garrick, Sr., UCLA; Jonathan Sanders, SR., WASHINGTON.

Current Pac-12 teams ranked among the Top 25 in Golfweek include No. 4 STANFORD, No. 10 USC, No. 16 CALIFORNIA, No. 18 ARIZONA STATE and No. 24 WASHINGTON. The NCAA will announce the regional fields for the NCAA Championships this Thursday, May 5 on the Golf Channel Morning Drive at 9:30 a.m. ET/6:30 a.m. PT.
