Cal freshman Moore named Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week

• Charlie Moore scored 38 points to almost singlehandedly lead CALIFORNIA to a come-from-behind 75-65 overtime win over UC Irvine on Wednesday. With his team missing three key starters - preseason All-American sophomore forward Ivan Rabb, and senior guards Jabari Bird and Grant Mullins - the 5-10 Moore ignited the Golden Bears' offense as he broke a more than 20-year-old Cal record, topping Shareef Abdur-Rahim's freshman scoring record of 33 points from November 1995.

• To date, Moore's 38 points are the most by any Pac-12 player this season and the fifth-most in the country, including the most by any freshman, and the total matches the fourth-most by any freshman in Pac-12 Conference history.

• His night included a 15-of-17 clip from the foul line and 10-of-20 field goals including three 3-pointers. He scored 27 of his 38 points after halftime, including 21 second-half points to help the Bears erase a 13-point deficit, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the stripe in overtime for the 10-point victory.

• Moore's 38 points are the most for a Cal player since fellow Chicago product Jerome Randle had 39 at WASHINGTON STATE on Jan. 14, 2010. He is the first Cal freshman to earn the league's weekly award since Leon Powe in January 2004.
