16 Former Golden Bears Put Together Strong Series Of Performances

BERKELEY – For the second straight year there was plenty of rain for Cal's annual Pro Day at California Memorial Stadium but a large group of 16 former Golden Bears still turned in plenty of notable performances while showing off their skills to front office personnel, coaches and scouts from the majority of the NFL's 32 teams.

"I'm not surprised at all with how our seniors from last season performed on their pro timing day." head football strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton said. "Those guys played a great deal of football during their time at Cal and I think they represented themselves well today and gave themselves an opportunity to be recognized by the next level."

Raymond Davison III arguably had the most notable testing performance including 24 bench press reps that would have been fifth among linebackers at the NFL Combine and a consensus time of 4.56 in the 40-yard dash that would have been sixth.

Others that had times of marks that would have ranked in the top-10 at their respective positions at the combine included running back Vic Enwere (10' 2" broad jump, T5th; 21 bench press reps, T8th), linebacker Devante Downs (23 bench press reps, T5th), cornerback Marloshawn Franklin Jr. (10' 2" broad jump, T8th; 6.85 3 cone drill, 10th) and wide receiver Jordan Veasy (10' 3" broad jump, T10th).

Participants started inside the dry Simpson Center for Student-Athlete High Performance by going through a flexibility test and having their height, weight, hand width, arm length and wing span measured. The vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, 20-yard shuttle and 3 cone drill were all conducted on the weight room turf before the group moved out to the playing field at California Memorial Stadium for the 40-yard dash, 60-yard shuttle and on-field position work.

Other former Cal players that participated were Antoine Albert, Darius Allensworth, Jacob Anderson, Matt Anderson, Jeffrey Coprich Jr., Vincenzo D'Amato, David Garner, Kyle Kragen, James Looney, Bradley Northnagel and DeVante Wilson.

Looney participated only in the on-field position work after registering a strong showing earlier this month at the NFL Combine when he was the only defensive lineman among a group of 40 at the event to rank in the top 10 within his position group in each of the six measurable skills tests he tested in – 20-yard shuttle (4.37, 2nd), vertical jump (35.5, 3rd), 3 cone drill (7.32, 7th), broad jump (9'5", T8th), 40-yard dash (4.89, 10th) and bench press (28, T10th).

"I felt like I did well with my numbers and stuff at the combine," Looney said. "I was thinking about doing some stuff [at pro day], but my numbers at the combine were pretty good and myself and my agent just decided to stick with them."

Davison (Tropical Bowl), Looney (East-West Shrine Game) and Veasy all played in College All-Star Games in January of 2018 following their senior seasons at Cal in 2017.
