SEATTLE – On Senior Day, No. 49 Washington women's tennis came up with a big win over No. 40 Washington State in the Boeing Apple Cup Series, taking the match with a final score of 5-2.

About halfway through the match there was a temporary suspension of play due to rain, causing the rest of the match to be played indoors. The Huskies (15-10, 5-5 Pac-12) weren't flustered, however, closing out what ended up being a dominant performance over the Cougars (20-6, 5-5 Pac-12).

"I am so proud of the team," Washington head coach Robin Stephenson said. "They came in with a goal today to finish our last match at home on a positive note and today's win was huge. I can't say enough about these seniors and how much they have grown in their time here. There are always mixed emotions because on one hand it's sad that it's their last match on our home courts but on the other hand it was just so amazing to see the way they handled the moment and how much passion they played with today. Today was just a blast as a coach and I am so proud to coach this team and this group of girls and we are excited to see where this win takes us but we will certainly enjoy it."

In doubles action, No. 20 Miki Kobayashi and Vanessa Wong battled hard on court one, trading games back and forth with Barbora Michalkova and Melis Ates. Tied at 3-3, Kobayashi and Wong were able to pull ahead, winning the last three games and taking the set 6-3.

On court two, Stacey Fung and Katarina Kopcalic found themselves in an early hole, before regaining some momentum and winning consecutive games. They couldn't quite close it out, however, and fell 6-3. On court three, Alexis Prokopuik and Angela Li traded games early, but ended up dropping the set 6-2, with the doubles point going to Washington State.

Washington looked to bounce back in their singles matches. On court three, Miki Kobayashi looked unstoppable, cruising to a 6-1 first set victory and then finishing it off with a dominant 6-0 set-two victory. She claimed the match and the first singles point for the Huskies, tying it at 1-1.

On court six, Angela Li battled hard in her first Pac-12 singles match but couldn't come away with the victory, falling in both of the first two sets. That would be the lone singles loss for the Dawgs.

On court five, Katarina Kopcalic found herself locked in a first set battle that would ultimately need a tiebreaker to decide on winner. Kopcalic was able to pull out in front, taking the set 7-6(4). She took the lead and did not look back in set two, cruising to a 6-1 victory and taking the second singles point for the Huskies.

Court two similarly saw a back-and-forth first set. After a lot of long rallies, No. 46 Vanessa Wong was able to take the set 7-5. She then cruised to a 6-2 second set victory, locking up another singles point for UW.

After dropping the first set 6-2, Alexis Prokopuik found herself in a bit of a hole in set two, down 3-0. She was able to turn things around, however, and force a tiebreaker. Prokopuik then found her groove, winning the tiebreaker 7-6(1) and dominating the final set 6-0, clinching the match for Washington in her final home match.

On court one, it was a battle between two ranked players. No. 17 Stacey Fung and No. 26 Michaela Bayerlova put on an entertaining match. The two split the first two sets, with Fung winning the first 6-4 and Bayerlova taking the second by the same 6-4 score. Fung was able to take it to another level in set three, however, winning the set 6-2 and claiming the last singles point for the Huskies.
