Roundup: Beach volleyball team wins NCAA title No. 116 for UCLA athletics

UCLA

Congrats to UCLA beach volleyball for winning its first NCAA title, defeating Florida State 3-1 in the finals. It is the 116th NCAA championship for UCLA athletics.

Stanford

Gretchen Piscotty, the mother of former Stanford baseball star Stephen Piscotty, died Sunday night, ESPN reports. Check out this SC Featured piece on Piscotty’s mother’s battle with ALS that aired Sunday night.

Washington State

Washington State’s Alissa Brooks-Johnson won the Pac-12 Heptathlon title on Sunday at Stanford. It’s the third conference heptathlon title in her career.

USC

Former USC football assistant Todd McNair testified that he received more than $60,000 from Reggie Bush following the NCAA scandal that has kept McNair out of the business.

Utah

Utah men’s basketball guard Sedrick Barefield worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, Lynn Worthy reports. Barefield, a junior guard, is testing the NBA Draft waters but, at the moment, is expected to return to the team.

Oregon State

Lindsay Schnell of USA TODAY Sports has this story on Oregon State football contacting current Hawai’i players, sending a recruiting packet for a Hawai’i player addressed to the university. Hawai’i head coach Nick Rolovich sent out a couple of tweets about it to put the Beavs on notice.

Colorado

Colorado women’s lacrosse earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the second straight season, it was announced Sunday. The Buffs will play Jacksonville in the first round in Gainseville, Fla., on Friday.

Oregon

Oregon softball got its third straight Pac-12 series sweep after defeating Utah 8-1 Sunday in Eugene. Ann Schatz and Teri Goldberg recap the action for us.

Arizona

Arizona softball has won nine straight after mercy-ruling Grand Canyon 8-0 on Sunday (Arizona Daily Star). The Wildcats are now 38-13 overall and 11-10 in conference.

Arizona State

Meanwhile, Arizona State softball defeated Stanford 3-2 thanks to a two-run homer from DeNae Chatman in the sixth inning (The Arizona Republic).

Washington

And for your final softball link of the day, Washington softball finished up its regular season by sweeping Oregon State, going 44-8 overall and 15-8 in Pac-12 play (The Seattle Times). The NCAA Selection Show is Sunday night.
