Husky Offense Sputters As Cougars Take Game One

Mar 28, 2024

SEATTLE – The Washington offense couldn't get a beat on Cougar starter Grant Taylor all night as Washington State opened up the Boeing Apple Cup series with a 4-0 victory at Husky Ballpark on Thursday.

Husky starter Jared Engman received the loss, allowing four runs over four innings.

After working out of trouble in the first, the Huskies fell behind a few innings later as the Cougars strung together a walk and three-straight singles to go ahead 3-0 after three.

The next inning, Trey Cruz's solo home run to right pushed across another WSU run, adding a run of insurance.

But all of that was window dressing for Taylor's outstanding work on the mound as the Huskies managed just one hit off the right-hander in a complete game effort.

Washington will look to rebound Friday night as the two sides resume the series at 7:05 p.m. PT. The game will be available for viewing on the main Pac-12 Network channel, as well as Pac-12 Washington.
