No. 5 Card Sweep UC Davis Doubleheader
DAVIS, Calif. – The No. 5 Cardinal went 2-0 at UC Davis today, moving to 36-7 on the season. Senior Aly Kaneshiro led the day, going 3-for-4 with two homers and eight RBI in the game two win.
Stanford jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning thanks to four walks, a fielder's choice and a defensive error.
In the top of the second, the Card added another thanks to freshman Ava Gall singling and scoring freshman Kiley Buckley. Buckley had come in to run for Junior Camryn Carmouche, who walked in her first at bat. Carmouche earned her first start since 2022, opening up the game at third base. Carmouche entered the game three for her last three, all as a pinch hitter, with three RBI and a home run.
The Cardinal scored on another productive out in the fifth, with sophomore Kyra Chan grounding out to second to score senior Aly Kaneshiro and make it a 4-0 game.
The Aggies picked up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Stanford held on for the 4-2 win.
Senior Regan Krause picked up the win, throwing seven innings and allowing just two runs, one earned, on five hits with six strikeouts. The win, the 43rd of her career, puts her in a tie for the ninth-most in program history.
Sophomore Emily Jones finished the game 2-for-4, extending her hitting streak to 11 games and upping her batting average to a team-leading .391.
In game two, the Card again struck first. Freshman Jade Berry blasted her fourth home run of the season in the top of the second to make it 1-0. Then in the third, Kaneshiro drove in a run with an RBI double to make it 2-0.
A solo shot from UC Davis in the third would cut the lead in half at 2-1.
Stanford answered back with a big top of the fourth. Sophomore Taryn Kern singled with the bases loaded to make it 4-1.
Gall earned another RBI on the day, hitting into an RBI groundout to make it 5-1 before Kaneshiro entered the box. Kaneshiro took a ball high and deep over the left field fence to score three and make it an 8-1 game heading into the bottom of the fourth.
The Aggies added another run in the bottom half of the inning, and again in the fifth, to make it 8-3 after five innings.
Kaneshiro went yard for the second time in the game, this time with the bases loaded to make it 12-3. Kaneshiro leads the team with nine home runs, a career high for the senior.
The nine homers are the most in a season by a Stanford player since 2015 when Kayla Bonstrom hit 13.
Stanford has now hit 41 homers as a team, the seventh-most in a season in program history and most in a season since 2013 when the Card hit 45.
Junior Kylie Chung picked up the win, relieving freshman Alyssa Houston. Houston went three innings, allowing only one run on three hits. Chung pitched the final three innings, limiting the Aggies to just two unearned runs on one hit.
Jones added to her hitting streak again, extending it to 12-straight games.
The Cardinal is back home this weekend, hosting No. 12 UCLA for three games at Smith Family Stadium. All three games against the Bruins are sold out, but fans can watch Friday's and Saturday's games on Pac-12 Networks, or Sunday's game on ESPN2.
