Steady Final Round Leads Huskies To Second At Western Intercollegiate

Apr 17, 2024

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Coming in at one shot over par for the day, Washington stayed steady on Wednesday to finish second at the historic Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

The second place finish is the Dawgs' eighth top-5 of the regular season.

"Today was bitter sweet in a way," head coach Alan Murray said. "Disappointed not to win as we feel that we left some shots out there this week but we did plenty of good stuff as well and we leave Pasatiempo really encouraged. We saw lots of good performances from the guys and we are starting to find some form. Proud of how they battled and embraced the heat of being in contention."

Petr Hruby and Taehoon Song were the top finishers for the Huskies, each finishing even for the tournament to tie for ninth. Hruby shot a one-over 71, while Song was one of two Huskies to post a red number on Wednesday at 69.

Teddy Lin was one shot back of Hruby and Song, placing tied for 14th with a 71 in the final round. Meanwhile, Bo Peng eagled 18 to move up to a tie for 21st with a 70 on Wednesday, three-over for the weekend.

"It was a really solid week from Petr, Taehoon, Teddy and Bo," Murray said.

Justin Bai also fired an even-par 70 on the day, matching Finn Koelle for a tie for 65th for the tournament at 13-over. Koelle fought through an up and down round on Wednesday, highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 13th.

"Justin did really nicely in his first time in the lineup as a collegiate golfer," Murray said. "He will have learned a lot from his experience."

Matching Song and his season-best score. Drew Warford posted a 69 to move into a tie for 39th for the tournament. However, Warford was competing as an individual and did not factor into the Huskies' team score.

With a play six, count five, format, the Western Collegiate is a perfect precursor for the Pac-12 Championship, scheduled for Apr. 26-28 at Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Arizona.

"This team has their best golf in front of them I believe and we will get back home and do some work before leaving for the Pac-12 Championship next week," Murray concluded.
