Turley’s Slam Paces Beavers In 11-10 Loss To Nevada

Apr 17, 2024

RENO, Nev. – Gavin Turley hit his fourth grand slam of the season but Nevada scored the game's last seven runs in an 11-10 win over the fifth-ranked Oregon State baseball team on Wednesday night at Peccole Park.

Turley's grand slam came during a seven-run fourth inning for the Beavers, who entered the frame down 4-1. Tanner Smith drew a bases-loaded walk and Dallas Macias was hit by a pitch to score two runs and set the table for Turley's second grand slam in his last three games.

A wild pitch and run-scoring triple by Mason Guerra in the sixth pushed the Beavers' lead to 10-4. Nevada (15-18 overall), however, pushed two runs across the plate in the sixth and tied the game in the eighth.

JR Freethy then hit a solo home run in the ninth off OSU reliever Bridger Holmes to send the Wolf Pack to the walkoff win.

Turley, Guerra and Elijah Hainline all had two hits for the Beavers, who dropped to 30-6 on the year. Hainline also had two RBI, which included a first-inning single.

Holmes took the loss after allowing his first earned run of the season. He is 2-1 on the year.

Matthew Canizares picked up the win for Nevada after keeping the Beavers scoreless in the ninth. He is 1-0.
