Moore Provides Fireworks in Three-Homer Game

STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Malcolm Moore connected for three home runs, finishing 3-for-3 with five runs scored, two walks and four RBIs as Stanford (16-19, 8-8 Pac-12) routed No. 16 Oregon (26-11, 10-6 Pac-12) 19-7 on Friday night from Sunken Diamond.

Moore provided the in-game fireworks, while fans were treated to a postgame fireworks show presented by Stanford Federal Credit Union.

The three-home run game was the third multi-homer game of Moore's career, having previously connected for two in a game at Cal State Fullerton (February 19, 2023) and at Oklahoma (March 30, 2023). He is the first Cardinal to record a three-home run game since Alberto Rios on May 14, 2023 vs. Arizona.

Moore homered in his first at bat leading off the second, drew a walk in the fourth, launched a two-run shot in the fifth, hit his third homer of the day in the seventh, and drew a second walk in the eighth.

With the three home runs, Moore has now hit 11 on the season.

Sophomore Matt Scott got the start and eventually earned the victory after working five innings and striking out seven. The right-hander improved to 3-6 on the season.

Stanford's bats exploded for the 19 runs on 14 hits – including four doubles and four homers, as Brandon Larson joined Moore in the home run column with a three-run blast as part of a nine-run eighth inning.

Oregon jumped out to a 5-1 lead headed into the bottom of the fourth, but Stanford plated six runs on four hits in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead after four. A two-RBI double from Charlie Saum and a bases-clearing three-RBI double from Owen Cobb highlighted the frame.

Moore's homers in the fifth and seventh ran Stanford's advantage to 10-5 after seven before Oregon got one back in the top of the eighth on the second home run of the night from Maddox Molony.

Punching back in a big way, the Cardinal put up nine runs on six hits and an error in the eighth to blow the game wide open. A run-scoring single from Cobb plated the first run before two-RBI singles from Ethan Hott and Cort MacDonald made it a five-run inning. After a dropped foul fly ensured that Stanford still batted with nobody out, Larson unloaded on a pitch for a three-run home run. After the next two hitters were retired, Trevor Haskins laced a single into center field and scored on a double down the line in right off the bat of Brady Reynolds one play later to cap the big inning.

Though Stanford's offense provided plenty of support, sophomore Toran O'Harran proved stingy over three relief innings after taking the ball from Scott to start the sixth. The right-hander allowed just one run on three hits while striking out six before handing the ball to Ben Reimers for the ninth.

Stanford will look to secure the series victory on Saturday when the three-game set continues at 2:05 p.m.

• Stanford has won three straight games after dropping the previous four straight.
• The Cardinal has scored double-digit runs in each of the last three contests – the first time Stanford has managed the feat since April 16-22, 2022.
• The 19 runs are the most for Stanford since hanging 20 on Arizona May 14, 2023.
• Four players managed multi-hit games – Cobb (2-for-6, 2B, R, 4 RBIs), Hott (2-for-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBIs), MacDonald (2-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBIs) and Moore (3-for-3, 5 R, 3 HR, 4 RBIs).
• Cobb has hit safely in nine of his last 13 games, managing multiple hits in eight of those contests.
• MacDonald has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, and 17 of his last 19, while reaching in all but three of his games played this year.
• Cobb and MacDonald each managed their 12th multi-hit game of the year.
• Haskins (1-for-3, 3 R) has hit safely in 13 of his last 14, and 17 of his last 21, games overall.
• All nine Stanford starters had at least one hit for the second consecutive game.
