Cal Dominates Tigers In Stockton

Apr 23, 2024
Andres Galan earned his fourth win of the season holding the Tigers to one run over 5.1 innings on Tuesday night.

STOCKTON – The California baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games, the longest such streak since the Golden Bears won 10 in a row in 2015, thanks to a lopsided 12-3 win over Pacific at Klein Family Field on Tuesday evening.

Cal (25-14) was held scoreless through two innings before erupting for 12 runs on 13 hits – including two more home runs. The Bears have hit a home run in 11 straight games and have 61 on the year. Cal also hit three doubles giving the Bears five extra base hits on the evening.

Jarren Advincula led the Bears offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three runs driven in. His 2-run home run in the fourth blew it open for Cal. Advincula's night started with a single in the third that started a four-run rally. He finished the evening with a single to left field that plated the Bears' final run of the day.

Max Handron also went yard, smashing his fifth home run of the year in the top of the seventh. Peyton Schulze also collected multiple RBI, driving in three on the evening. His double to right center in the top of the third gave the Bears the lead for good. Reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, Seth Gwynn, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pacific (7-33) scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch. Offensively, the Tigers put up little resistance to Cal's pitchers. Pacific did not record its first hit of the evening until the bottom of the fifth inning and were 2-for-15 with runners on base and 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Andres Galan (4-2) continues his brilliance on Tuesdays. He went 5.1 strong innings, scattering three hits a run, and a walk while recording four strikeouts. Christian Becerra, Tyler Stasiowski, and Connor Sullivan all had scoreless outings. Stasiowski was particularly sharp, he entered the game in the bottom of the eighth with two runners on and no outs. He got out of the jam, striking out the side while stranding both runners.

The loss was charged to Pacific's starter Gabe Camacho (0-1). Camacho went three complete, allowing five hits, and four runs – all earned, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Cal looks to make it 10 in a row on Friday when they travel to the Farm to take on Stanford for a three-game series. Friday's game is slated for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch and will be televised on Pac-12 Bay Area.
