Women of Utah Wrap Up Eventful Day on the Track Across Three Meets

Apr 26, 2024

DES MOINES, Iowa / PROVO, Utah / STANFORD, Calif. – On a day filled with event wins, PRs and movement in the record books for the Utah track & field team, it was Josefine Eriksen who stole the show by breaking her second school record in as many weeks.

DRAKE RELAYS
After a rain delay to start the day in Iowa, Utah's 4x100 relay team of Megan Rose, Emily Martin, Malia Overton and Bailey Kealamakia teamed up to run the second-fastest mark in program history and advanced to the finals with a time of 45.59.

Kyla Martin followed with a third-place finish in the 800m run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:09.13. Kealamakia, who ran in the fastest heat, placed fifth-overall in the 400m hurdles with a run of 59.79.

Emily Martin advanced to the finals of the 100m after running a PR mark of 11.71 – which at that point in time improved her school record that she had already owned. Rose ran in a separate heat from E. Martin and was just shy of a new personal best (11.91).

The 4x800m relay was up next with Erin Vringer, Grace Moroney, Millie Wilcox and Bri Rinn teaming up for the fourth-fastest time in Utah history (8:41.83) for third-overall. Utah's 4x200m relay squad of Overton, Madi Durrant, J'neya Hill and Chloe Shewell closed out the evening in the famed Blue Oval with a school record-breaking run of 1:39.84.

ROBISON INVITATIONAL
Back in Utah at the Robison Invitational, Eriksen broke E. Martin's school record in the 100m less than 15 minutes after she improved her mark over at the Drake Relays when the Norwegian posted a PR run of 11.62.

Over in the 400m dash, Annie Murdock finished sixth-overall after recording 58.97 in her heat.

Shana Van Elderen rounded out the short afternoon for the Women of Utah down in Provo, jumping a distance of 13.03m (38-4.75).

PAYTON JORDAN INVITATIONAL
Back West in the Payton Jordan Invitational, Lindsey Peters had a gutsy run in section 2 of the 5000m run by taking second-overall. The Caledonia, Mich., product ran with the lead group biding her time throughout race before trying to make a push with 500m left to go and passed Colorado's Samree Dishon down the backstretch. However, Dishon did not back down and would outkick Peters heading out of the turn with 300m left to go before she would cross the finish line at 16:05.20 for a new PR – moving her to eighth on the all-time list.

The Women of Utah will wrap things up on Saturday, April 27, at the Drake Relays while the other contingent of Utes close the weekend out back home at the Robison Invitational.
