It was the second medal of U.S. Open Water Nationals for Gravley, after placing third in the men's 10 km with a time of 1:53.21.

In his junior year with the Sun Devils, Gravley had a second-place finish in the 1650 free at the final home meet against GCU on Jan. 6. As the Sun Devil men went on to repeat as Pac-12 champions, Gravley swam the 500 free, 1650 free and 400 IM. Back in September, he was one of 11 student-athletes and pros named to the U.S. National Team for 2023-24.

At the Pan American Games back in October in Santiago, Chile, Gravley placed fourth in the men's 10km with a time of 1:50.26. Before the start of the school year, he also competed at the 2023 World Open Water Championships in the men's 5k where he finished with a time of 57:20 as he finished in the top-30. It was Gravley's second year in a row competing at Worlds where he competed in the 10k in Budapest back in 2022 and finished 13th.

Gravley's win in the 5km marks the third year in a row that either Gravley or his brother Brennan have won the event.
