Vringer Advances to Finals While Mayfield Scores Four Points for Utah

BOULDER, Colo. – Grad transfer Clara Mayfield scored Utah track & field's first points of the weekend in the 10000m race while Erin Vringer advanced to the finals of the 1500m race on Friday at Potts Field on the opening day of the Pac-12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Vringer and teammate Grace Moroney opened up the day in the 1500m race. Both ran in the second heat with Vringer crossing the finish line at 4:16.77 (aa) for fourth in her heat and seventh-overall to earn a spot in the finals of the event on Saturday. Moroney would record a time of 4:36.32 in her first conference championships meet.
 
A little bit later, a trio from the Utah contingent competing in the 200m dash all ran new personal best marks. Emily Martin had the best finish among the group of Utes, crossing the finish line at 24.06 (aa) for third in her heat while Megan Rose posted a run of 24.89 (aa). The first of three new PRs came from Malia Overton, who registered a new mark of 25.07 (aa) followed by J'neya Hill's 25.19 (aa) and Chloe Shewell's 25.57 (aa).
 
In the 400m hurdles prelims, Ally Gomm recorded the top time among the trio of Utes with a run of 59.04 (aa) followed by Harley Daniel's 59.16 (aa). Bailey Kealamakia not only came through with a PR run but saw herself move up one spot to No. 8 on the all-time list at Utah with a mark of 59.20 (aa).
 
Mayfield registered Utah's first points of the meet when she finished fifth-overall with a run of 34:00.78 for four points. Meanwhile, teammate Saydi Anderson clocked in at 35:09.93 ninth-overall and just missed out on scoring for the Utes.
 
Over in the horizontal jumps, Shana Van Elderen's top leap on the day was 5.63m (18-5.75) while senior Delaney Gates checked in at 5.07m (16-7.75).
 
Day two of the Pac-12 Championships is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. (MDT) with the 100m hurdles for Utah and wrap up with the 3000m steeplechase finals beginning at 5:20 p.m. (MDT).
