Moersdorf Pulls Off Annual Double with Podium Finish

May 11, 2024

BOULDER, Colo. -  Anneke Moersdorf needed to make up more than 300 points to put herself on the podium heading into the 800 meters at 5,200 feet.

She did just that, racing to a personal best of 2:16.52 to score 5,596 points and surpass Oregon's Annika Thompson for third place and a spot on the podium. For the second consecutive year, the senior scored in two events after finishing eighth in the high jump. Her clearance came 20 minutes following the 800 meters.

"We had a fun day at the track today," head coach Louie Quintana said. "Anneke was the star of the show. First wins Pac-12 Student-Athlete of the Year, then goes out and runs her guts out in that 800 to podium in the Hep and almost surely locking up her spot in Eugene for Nationals.  Then, as if the altitude didn't faze her, she puts in her HJ shoes and gets 8th in the HJ. Not human."

"15 points as a team is great for the Beavs and we have scoring opportunities tomorrow in both relays, 400m hurdles and 5k on the track and Discus in the field. Looking forward to a fun day closing out this final Pac-12 event with the traditional teams," Quintana continued.

TODAY'S FINALS
In addition to the heptathlon, Oregon State piled up points in the high jump. Grace Proudfoot and Moersdorf split eighth place and the one point with it while Dede Norman placed fifth with a 1.76m/5-9.25 clearance.

"We were awesome in the High Jump: Three scorers led by freshman, Dede Norman - also, Grace Proudfoot etched her name in the scorer's book. Coach Pete Herber has done a fantastic job cultivating that group," Quintana said

Jamie Hamlin battled in the steeplechase, finishing just a spot short of scoring in 11:42.20. The
