Blair, Lindfors Take Second, Third In Discus

BOULDER, Colo. – Three more Golden Bears earned podium finishes and California's men posted their best finish at a conference championship meet since 1991 as Cal track & field bade farewell to the Pac-12 Conference on Sunday at Potts Field.
 
As a squad, the men compiled 95 points to finish third overall, trailing only conference champion Washington and runner-up USC. The final points of the Bears' third-place finish were scored in the men's 4x400m relay; it was the foursome of Isaiah Shaw, Iyan Godwin, Josh Keller and George Monroe who held off the fourth-place Oregon men, finishing ahead of the Ducks' relay team in a seventh-place 3:10.35.

"I'm very proud of them," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Robyne Johnson said. "We're a very strong men's squad, and it was nice to see the guys perform so well at the right time."

Cal's women finished in a tie for ninth place at 33 total points, while Oregon took home the women's team championship.
 
After a lengthy morning lightning delay, the meet started off with the women's discus, where Cal's Jasmine Blair and Caisa-Marie Lindfors earned the Bears' first two podium finishes of the day. Blair came close to her personal best with a throw of 59.47m (195-1) to take second place in the field, while Lindfors claimed third place at 58.88m (193-2).
 
Senior Jai Williams posted his highest finish yet at his final conference championships, finishing second in the high jump with a clearance of 2.09m (6-10.25). All three of Cal's entries scored in that event, with Riley Knott taking fourth at 2.09m (6-10.25) and Victor Ezike Jr. eighth at 2.03m (6-8).
 
The Bears posted four program top-10 times on the track. The women's 4x100m relay quartet of Jada Hicks, Aysha Shaheed, Ryan Lacefield and Asjah Atkinson combined for a time of 44.56, tying the eighth-fastest mark in program history and placing seventh overall to score. Shaheed followed that up with scoring performances in the 100m (eighth, 11.46) and 200m (seventh, 23.35), the latter of which increased her own Cal No. 4 entry. On the men's side, Shaw ran a personal best in the 400m for the second consecutive day, racing to a sixth-place 45.51 that moved him up to No. 2 in program history, while David Foster improved his own 100m program record to 10.14 to take fourth place.
 
Three male freshmen posted additional scoring performances. Jeremiah Bolaños placed seventh in the triple jump with a best leap of 14.69m (48-2.5), while redshirt rookie Nick Godbehere took eighth in the discus after whirling the platter 52.26m (171-5); over on the track, Justin Pretre kept pace with the Pac-12's best to finish in an eighth-place 3:56.73. Fellow freshman Myla Canty also scored for the women with a sixth-place 12.57m (41-3) in the triple jump. Other upperclassmen scorers included Atkinson (seventh, 13.55) and Jazlynn Shearer (eighth, 13.56) in the 100m hurdles as well as Amari Turner (seventh, 4.18m/13-8.5) in the pole vault.
