Dawgs Host Gonzaga For Friday Matinee

SEATTLE -- Washington women’ s soccer will ride a two-game winning streak into Friday’s contest with Gonzaga, a 4:30 p.m. kick that will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. After a tough early stretch, the Dawgs (3-4-0) look to get back to .500 with a win over in-state rival Gonzaga (3-3-0).

Washington is coming off of its best performance of the season, a 5-0 win over Seattle U. After scoring just three goals in the first six games, the Dawgs got the offense going with five different goal scorers. Isabel Farrell set up the offense, connecting on a school-record tying five assists, while McKenzie Karas, Allie Beahan, Jaclyn Softli, Becca Schoales and Christina Archer each scored goals.

Schoales also scored twice in the win over Central Michigan, giving the freshman three goals in the past two games. She is quickly establishing herself as an offensive threat for the Huskies.

Defensively, Washington has posted back-to-back shutouts and allowed just three goals in the past six games. Megan Kufeld has settled in nicely at goalkeeper, making 21 saves and allowing just 0.85 goals per game. The Dawgs are also getting healthier along the backline that came into the season with four senior starters.

Gonzaga is also coming in on a hot streak with wins over Oregon State and Eastern Washington. The Bulldogs did not allow a goal in either game and now have six goals on the season. Heather Johnson leads Gonzaga with two goals, while Aliyah Miller has two assists.

Following Friday’s game, the Dawgs will enter Pac-12 play. After a rough early start with injuries and a difficult schedule, Washington appears to be turning things around at the right time.
