Kingdon and Snuka Earn Weekly Pac-12 Honors

After leading the Arizona volleyball team to sweeps of UCLA and No. 1 USC over the weekend, junior Madi Kingdon and freshman Penina Snuka were rewarded with Pac-12 Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday. Kingdon was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Snuka was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

Kingdon and Snuka also earned Pac-12 weekly honors back on Sept. 22 after Arizona won the Wildcat Classic.

Kingdon led the Wildcats to a sweep of both UCLA and No. 1 USC. It was the first time Arizona has swept both UCLA and USC in a weekend since 2001, which was the year the Wildcats advanced to the Final Four. Kingdon recorded a team-best 6.17 points per set and 5.50 kills per set. She was also very efficient as she hit a solid .333 for the weekend. Kingdon was superb in the victory over No. 1 USC as she finished with a match-high 20 kills on .340 hitting with six digs.

Snuka had her best weekend as a member of the Wildcats. She helped Arizona to wins over UCLA and No. 1 USC with double-doubles in both matches. She now has 10 double-doubles for the season, the most of anyone in the Pac-12. In the upset victory over USC, Snuka dished out 43 assists, which equaled the most assists in a three-set match by anyone in the league.

The Wildcats finished a perfect 2-0 on the weekend to move their overall record to 15-5, 5-3 Pac-12.  The victory over USC was Arizona’s first over a No. 1-ranked team since it defeated UCLA in 1993, while the sweep was the first time the Cats have ever swept a No. 1 team.
