ASU, Texas Tech Agree On Future Football Series

Dec 26, 2013
TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State University and Texas Tech University have scheduled a future home/home series in football, Senior Vice President for Educational Outreach and Interim Director of University Athletics Dr. James Rund announced Thursday.

The games will be played on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Sun Devil Stadium/Frank Kush Field in Tempe and on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

The dialogue between ASU and Texas Tech regarding a future football series began several months ago.  It is a coincidence that the two institutions will be opponents in the upcoming National University Holiday Bowl game on Monday, December 30 in San Diego.

“This is a series that addresses several criteria that we have in football scheduling,” says Rund.  “It is important for us to schedule home/home series with schools that are located in the Western portion of the United States.  The state of Texas destination offers our fan base with an easy trip to make to watch their beloved Sun Devils play.  Texas Tech is a first-class institution representing the powerhouse Big 12 Conference.  And our football staff, led by Head Coach Todd Graham, recruits heavily in the state of Texas.”

“I am thrilled to be able to announce a future football series with Texas Tech University,” says Sun Devil Head Football Coach Todd Graham.  “Scheduling is so important to the overall success of a program and this is the type of matchup that we are seeking to fulfill our future dates.  We recruit the talent-rich state of Texas and this series will assist us to widen our footprint there.”
